About Me ...

I CURRENTLY TEACH AND COACH SKATING
at the internationally-renowned University of Delaware Ice Skating Science Development Center in Newark, DE where I have taught since 1988. I also recently began coaching at the Skating Club of Wilmington. Specializing in all levels of Free Skating and Moves in the Field, I teach a diverse group of students that encompasses a wide range of ages, abilities, and interests. As a USFS Triple Gold-test Medalist and former competitor, I understand the perserverance and discipline necessary to reach the top levels in the sport. And while I enjoy sharing my passion for the sport with my competitive and serious-minded young pupils, I equally enjoy and appreciate students who seek only fun and fitness as they work towards new personal measures of success and achievement.

Throughout the years, I have coached numerous Philadelphia Area and South Atlantic Regional champions, and USFS Gold test medalists (all whom I developed from the Basic Skills "grass-roots" levels), along with ISI recreational competitors, adults, toddlers, synchronized teams, and hundreds of college students, many for whom skating is an entirely novel experience. I feel this diversity in experiences has helped make me more skillful as an instructor, and has added a healthy and balanced perspective to my work.

I have multiple roles as a full-time coach. Privately, I coach competitive and recreational students at the training center. I also serve as a group instructor in the Community Class Learn-to-Skate program, and teach college lifetime fitness classes in ice skating for the Department of Health and Exercise Science.

Actively involved in the Professional Skaters Association, I hold Master Ratings in Moves in the Field and Group Teaching, and have passed the Master Sport Science exam as well. I currently have a Certifed Free Skating rating and a Qualifying Regional Competition (Level 2) Ranking. Believing continuing education to be a vital part of my growth and development as a coach, I frequently attend PSA seminars and conferences, and have supported the PSA's mission, serving as a mentor to intern members, a ratings examiner, a State Workshop hostess, and a former PSA Area 2 Rep.
